What Necessity does mean (Definition)
· Ps 19:1-3 -- 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
· Rom 1:19-20 -- 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
· Wayne Grudem -- The necessity of Scripture means that the Bible is necessary for knowing the gospel, for maintaining spiritual life, and for knowing God’s will.
· Gregg Allison – Necessity is an attribute of Scripture whereby it is essential for knowing the way of salvation, for progressing in holiness, and for discerning God’s will.
· 2 Tim 3:15 -- 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
· Rom 10:13-14,17 -- 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?... 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
· 1 Pet 2:2 -- 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation
· Matt 4:4 – 4 But he answered, “It is written, “ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
What necessity does not mean (Clarification)
