False Teachers

Sunday, November 17, 2024
Pastor Jojo Ma

5 Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths. 6 Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them; 7 the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God. 8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

I.         False teachers and their folly [vv5-7]
5 Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths.

That is the main thing about false teachers: They mislead people and take them down paths away from God and away from His truth.

Ps 95:10 They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.

Is 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way.

5 Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths.

Phil 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

1 Cor 9:14 The Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

Acts 17:11 they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

“Christians’ love for God today is seen in the kind of preaching for which they have an appetite.”

6 Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them; 7 the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.

What you save them with is what you save them to. You become what you behold...godly or not.

II.        Faithful teachers and their fruit [v8]
8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

Jer 20:9 There is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.

1 Cor 2:4-5 My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God’s power.

2 Cor 4:2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.

8...to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

If we will be forgiven and experience true peace with God, we must know our helpless condition and turn from it and embrace Christ in faith. There is no hope and no peace apart from repentant faith in Christ.
