Exodus 6:28-7:7

28 On the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 the LORD said to Moses, "I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you." 30 But Moses said to the LORD, "Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?" 1 And the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring My hosts, My people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them." 6 Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the LORD commanded them. 7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

I.         Moses’ impaired lips [v30]
30 But Moses said to the LORD, "Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?"

Ex 4:10 But Moses said to the LORD, "Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since You have spoken to Your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue."

Ex 6:12 But Moses said to the LORD, "Behold, the people of Israel have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?"

This is one of the most common excuses we come up with when we don’t want to do the Lord’s work: We focus on our weakness and not on God’s strength; we focus on our inability and not on God’s ability.

29 The LORD said to Moses, "I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you."

Serving and sacrifice are a big part of the Christian life. We should aim to be providers not consumers. So let me simply ask: Members, are you serving in the local church? Or do you find excuses time after time? It’s an important question to answer.

vv1-2 And the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land."

This Moses-God will defeat Pharaoh-god. This Moses-God will control nature, locusts, livestock, fire from heaven, water to blood, life and death. Everything is in God’s hands working through Moses.

vv1-2 And the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land."

We represent Him. Our job is to simply be faithful. Every Christian is a messenger for the Lord. We are all called to speak His truth to this world and faithfully represent who He is. 

vv6-7 Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the LORD commanded them. Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. 

II.        Pharaoh’s hard heart [v3]
3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.

Scripture says that Pharaoh hardened his own heart and it says that God hardened Pharoah’s heart. Both are true. Let the tension stand. We don’t have to resolve it.

Prov 21:1 say? The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He will.

4:21 And the LORD said to Moses, "When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go."

Rom 9:17-18 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth." So then He has mercy on whomever He wills, and He hardens whomever He wills. 

III.      God’s mighty hand [v5]
5 The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.

It’s scary to have the face of God turn away from you, but it’s absolutely horrifying to have the hand of God stretched out against you. And this is what the Egyptians would experience.

4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring My hosts, My people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.

Ex 5:2 But Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover, I will not let Israel go."

Do you know the Lord as Redeemer, as Savior? Do you know Him in this way? Have you trusted in the gospel, have you put your full confidence in Christ to save you through repentant faith? I urge you to be reconciled to God through Christ today.
