1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1. Give Thanks for His Wondrous Works in Christ Ps. 105:1-2

Ps. 105:1-2
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
    make known his deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
    tell of all his wondrous works! 

Regeneration
1 Tim. 1:15 “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”

In v. 13 “blasphemer, persecutor and insolent opponent.”

v. 16 “But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.”

 

Rom. 5:10 “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

 

Sanctification

 

Rom. 6:17-18 “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.”

 

Rom. 6:22 “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.”

 

Glorification
Rom. 8:16-17 “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

2. Give thanks to God for Who He is, Ps. 30:4

Ps. 30:4
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
    and give thanks to his holy name.

Sovereignty - Eph. 1:11 “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will”

Omniscience - Rom. 11:33-36 “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”

Faithfulness 

2 Tim. 2:13 “If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.”

Phil. 4:9 “My God shall supply every need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus”

Goodness - Ps. 107:1 “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures forever!” James 1:17 “every good and perfect gift is from above” 

Love - Rom. 8:38-39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

3. Give Thanks to God Always - 1 Thess. 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances”

Eph. 2:7 “immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 

1) Sing praises to God - Ps. 30:4 “Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.”, Ps. 33:2 “Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!” 

2) Give Praise to God - Ps. 105:1 “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!”, Ps. 106:1 “Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” 

3) With sincerity - Ps. 9:1 - “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.”

4) Giving him a sacrifice of thanksgiving - 
Ps. 50:14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
    and perform your vows to the Most High”

Ps. 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”

Rom. 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Col. 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
